IRIS ROZENDAAL

Mid-century modern abstract sculptures and ancient vessels both embrace natural materials, raw textures and focus on the purity. I explore the similarity between this tactility and abstract expression.

Creating starts with what unsettles me. My work is a way of confronting unresolved tension — emotional and personal. Through creating, I give form to what feels difficult to name. Meaning comes through the process, not the answer.

Clay is not just a material — it is a mirror. It receives without resistance and reveals without words. I use it as a medium for inner work: a quiet confrontation with what is hidden, unresolved or shifting.

My sculptures carry a tactile presence and a minimal visual language. They do not aim to impress but to hold space — for vulnerability, for silence, for not knowing.

In a field often defined by conceptual noise or technical perfection, I consciously choose emotional depth, physical sensitivity and restraint. My work is not to decorate or explain, but to feel, process and transform.
